Rep Power: 0 | A customer just called and said she has poison ivy and wanted to know if she should tan. I said I didn't know but would try to find out from some friends of mine. What should I tell her? Thanks. Pam |

Rep Power: 23 | I just had one of the worst cases of poison ivy... no not really, but it sure seemed that way at the time. The best thing for your client to do is check with her doctor. Each medical professional should make a judgement based on the severity of the case. My doctor suggested I start tanning again to dry it up faster. But what was good for me, may not apply to someone else. This is the third time a medical professional has prescribed tanning for something. Also recommend a product called Zanfel. It is expensive and has to be special ordered at a pharmacy. But it works... better than any prescription pill, cream or shot. |

Rep Power: 0 | Thanks all for your replies. I told her if in doubt--don't. It sure won't hurt anything not to tan for a few days. She was just amazed that I took the time to ask someone and then call her back. Pam |

Rep Power: 24 | About 85% of us are potentially allegic to poision ivy, sumac and or Oak. It is the urushiol (sap) these plants contain which creates our discomfort.. Urushiol sticks to clothing..shoes...fur of animals for months..and sometimes for a year or more. Be sure to wear long sleves when hiking in the woods.. also long pants..wear boots and gloves. Put clothing right into the washer when finished with your hike... Clean shoes or boots with warm water. If you know you have brushed a poisionous plant..you have up to 30 minutes to wash with soap and water.. also you can scrub the area with alcohol... beer or wine can be used if thats all you have. One way to ditch the itch is to take a very hot bath. Run hot water all over the rashed area..as hot as you can take it for as long as you can with-out burning the skin.. The itch will stop for several hours. When the itch begins again..do the hot bath again.. repeat as needed. (Do NOT do this if skin is open or peeling). Apply witch hazel.. soak a gauze pad in the witch hazel and pat the area. Apply calamine lotion. Know your enemy.. C |
