Average Shelf Life of Sunless Solutions?

I have been trying to decide which solution to go with (reading up here, doing some google searches, asking distributors for samples, getting return calls saying sorry no samples but we will sell you a gallon at xxx price etc.)

Anyways talking to one rep today (won't say which but its a TOP name) they were saying solution once opened exposed to air - has a shelf life of aprox 6-8 weeks before oxidation sets in, is this accurate?

If that is the case starting out here I will probably just buy by the quart to start so i can keep solutions fresh on hand...

Bill

Once opened it does not last as long. I dont think we ever had any sit here for more than two months, and those were 5 gallon containers.

Fresh solution would always be best you would think. I would do as you thought and start small. By a few small containers as they last a long time sealed and when you run low you will have more on hand.

Re: Average Shelf Life of Sunless Solutions?

Wow! Now I'm a little worried. I ordered a few gallons of pure sunless solution. It was more than I needed but got it in a package deal. I hope it doesn't go bad!! I always have ordered 1/2 gallons of something in the past. I thought the shelf life of stuff was about a year.

Re: Average Shelf Life of Sunless Solutions?

I think you are ok (at least for some time) if it isn't opened, at least that is how it was explained to me but as for how long a product stays fresh in unopened state maybe someone else here can chime in?

It will be quarts for me at this time till i know which solution i like best, so far ordered quarts of
Mystic (rep said it was aprox 10% dha)
Focus 10%
Aviva 8.5%

Hoping out of those 3 one will stand out as a fav, if not back to finding more to try i guess till one clicks for me.

Re: Average Shelf Life of Sunless Solutions?

I had extra gallons of solution (package deal also), I put it in a cool, dark place (my basement) and didn't open it. 5 months later I have opened it and used it on myself and friends and it is as good as the fresh stuff. I guess it depends on how long it is sitting around before it gets to you as well as how it is stored.

Re: Average Shelf Life of Sunless Solutions?

We buy 5 gallons at a time of 3 diff levels of color.

We have never had a product go bad up to a year.

Store it in a cool place, if its cool its dark enough.

The fridge works great!

Bill,

We use Swoosh and absolutly love it. I really think it is worth a try for you. I saw your previous post on another thread that said you couldn't find a contact info on them. When I get into the salon this morning and things quiet down a bit, I will see if I can locate the number and post it.

Sharon.

BTW we keep our unopend solution in the fridge also ----- works great!

Re: Average Shelf Life of Sunless Solutions?

In most cases solution has atleast 1 year shelf life. We have some really old 'like 3 years" every so on we take it out and try it. Still works well color not as dark but really close. Just be sure to keep the lid on it, out of the sun and away from heat. If you aren't going to use up solution within about 6 months I wouldn't pour left over solution back into the jug.

Bill Oxygen and heat are what destroy DHA. So yes if you leave the top off your solution will not be any good. But if you keep it cool and pour your gallon into smaller bottles, solution can last a year. Unless you are using some "all natural" "organic" with no preservatives..if so use QUICK!!
