Question Tanning lotion levels

What does it mean when a tanning accelerator lotion - has a level number associated with it?
Like for example "Level 2 advanced"

Re: Tanning lotion levels

There's no set meaning. One might mean it has a higher concentration of vitamins and amino acids or maybe more expensive ingredients. Some have self tanner and the level 2 might have more of the self tanning ing.

Re: Tanning lotion levels

I thought it was the lower the level the more beginner kind of lotion it is.
Like 'Level 1' would be for people who are just starting off and have no tan.
No?

Re: Tanning lotion levels

Yes and no. beginner usually means it contains no DHA and your basic Vitamins A,E with a water base.

Level 2 might be the same with hemp oil, B vitamins, aloe base, niacin, DHA, etc.

Depending on the lotion company and lotion line it'll mean something different.

Re: Tanning lotion levels

^^^ Sorta. Ideally you start at a Level one to build a tan and level 2 once you have the tan you want. If you want to push it really far, level 3.

But in the end they all work very well and its more of a marketing thing. What I usually do though is sell any of the step to the young clients and sell the step 2 or 3 to the older clients who need more skin care.

Re: Tanning lotion levels

As a tanning lotion manufacturer since 1992.... Let me say for a fact that:

It's all marketing! Period!

There is not set industry standard for anything to do with indoor tanning product steps/levels/....

When a company says Step 10 with 20 bronzers and lavel 3 tingle factor.... they can be completely lying (called marketing) to gain customer shelf appeal!

There is no industry standards!

It's all marketing period!

We are making it all up to attract customers... everyone is!

Re: Tanning lotion levels

I suspected what Soakinuptherays said...

But what about the Tingle Lotions? are they not for a more advanced tanner with more resilient skin?
& That being said, can a BEGINNER tanner feel confident and safe using a lotion labled level 2 or 3?

Actually, In my opinion, And doing this for 22 years, a LEVEL 1 Lotion would be any thing cheap with a water base.

I suggest you dont look at levels and find one that does not use water. Water will dry out your skin while tanning.

Re: Tanning lotion levels

The level of bronzer and tingle may (and I stress "may") give you some indication of strength, but only if it is from the same company and from the same line. That is about it.

Otherwise as stated before... Marketing. Someone got paid $60-$100 an hour to figure out how to make you buy that bottle.

Tingles should only be used if you have reached your max tan and can not seem to get any darker.

Tingles cause increased micro-vascular circulation at the top layers of the skin. The thought is that the more oxygen in the tanning process, the better results. The tingle is caused because the blood vessels are "pinching" the nerves. If your skin turns red, that is because the active ingredient(s) is/are working and you have more blood in the upper layer of you skin; thus redder skin.
